The 9th International Symposium of Jurnal Antropologi Indonesia (ISJAI 9) is an international academic conference organized by the Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Indonesia. Taking place on 4–7 August 2026 at the UI Depok Campus, the symposium brings together anthropologists, social scientists, researchers, activists, and practitioners from Indonesia and abroad to engage with pressing global and regional challenges through anthropological perspectives.
Under the theme “Pluriversal Futures in a Multipolarising World: Global South Perspectives,” ISJAI 9 provides a critical forum to explore how shifting global power configurations, environmental crises, economic transformations, and sociopolitical realignments are experienced and negotiated in everyday life. The symposium emphasizes the importance of Global South perspectives, ethnographic insight, and pluriversal approaches in understanding and shaping diverse futures.
Continuing ISJAI’s long-standing tradition since 2000, the symposium serves as a platform for scholarly exchange, interdisciplinary dialogue, and international networking, while fostering collaboration among academics, activists and institutions across regions.
