Myths in relation to Pregnancy and Maternal Mortality Reduction

Abstract


Indonesia has a lot of myths about pregnancy. Myth itself is a story whose origins have been forgotten, and present the history of scientific thought that no one who explains in the form of anthropomorphic and animistic. And sometimes to preserve the myths traditional leaders creating rituals, customs, social and cultural bond. Some of the myths associated with pregnancy can be harm to pregnant mother and even cause of death in mother. In this paper present the myths associated with pregnancy can be harm both to pregnant mother and result in maternal mortality and also expressed about the myths that can support the program to reduce maternal mortality. In this paper were also expressed about how to change those the myths that considered negative into something that has a positive value so that it could be support the program to reducing maternal mortality. The paper also reveals the importance of support from client system, especially husbands, parents or in-laws and other relatives and the Paraji (traditional midwife) which have a role in preserving the myths that exist.
