ABSTRACT

This research explores Indonesia’s challenges in facing the competition among great powers that occur at the global level. The study is conducted with a multilateralism perspective in preparing for Indonesia’s Golden Century in 2045. The shift in global geopolitical actors is inevitable, especially when Russia and Ukraine enter a new phase in their relationship in the Post-Soviet era. The war in Ukraine has clarified the power struggle between countries with great power, both in the West and East, as well as in the North and South. In the context of multilateralism, these powers gather in NATO, AUKUS, INDO PACIFIC, CSTO, BRICS, and SCO. This research attempts to answer the following questions: first, what challenges does Indonesia face, and how does Indonesia take geopolitical and geostrategic measures to respond to great power rivalry ? Second, in the regional multilateralism perspective, what multilateral cooperation strategies does Indonesia prepare to achieve Indonesia’s Golden Century in 2045? This research utilizes a qualitative method. Analysis is carried out using Security Theory and Regional Security Complex Theory, both of which are Barry Buzan’s thoughts. The preliminary conclusion of this research shows that Indonesia considers the shift in the global geopolitical map to have implications and impacts on Indonesia’s interest in realizing Indonesia’s Golden Century in 2045. Therefore it is important for Indonesia to anticipate the threats posed by rivalries among competing great powers.
