Abstract
Celebrity diplomacy has emerged as a powerful tool to advocate for important causes and raise public awareness in today's digital society. However, the role of celebrities in shaping societal norms and beauty standards has remained a topic of debate. In Indonesia, like many other countries, women are often subjected to unrealistic beauty standards that negatively impact their self-esteem and body image. While celebrity diplomacy can positively impact challenging beauty standards, it can reinforce them by perpetuating unattainable beauty ideals. This paper examines the potential of celebrity diplomacy in Indonesia to challenge these harmful beauty standards and promote body positivity. Through a critical analysis of the role of celebrity influencers in shaping beauty standards and societal norms in Indonesia, we highlight the opportunities and challenges of using celebrity voices to challenge these norms. This research uses a mixed-method approach to gain a deeper understanding of the role of celebrity diplomacy in promoting social change and challenging cultural norms. By considering the complex intersections of celebrity influence, societal norms, and the cultural and economic factors that shape beauty standards, we can work towards more equitable and inclusive forms of digital community building that empower women and challenge harmful beauty standards and inspire a more diverse and inclusive definition of beauty in Indonesia and empower women to celebrate their uniqueness and diversity.
