Erosion Hazard Levels Based on Land Cover and Coal Mining in Penajam Paser Utara District, East Kalimantan
Last modified: 2022-11-27
Abstract
North Penajam Paser Regency is one of the regencies in East Kalimantan Province, which has coal mines. The higher coal production every year means that the mining area in North Penajam Paser Regency is getting wider, resulting in higher erosion rates in that regency. This study uses the USLE model using the variables of rainerosivity, soil erodibility, slopes, and factors of cover crops and land management to see the level of erosion hazard. The results of this study are that land cover in Penajam Paser Utara Regency has changed in area in 2009, 2014, and2020. The forest and paddy fields cover decreasing while plantations, water bodies, built-up land, open land, andmining increase. The relationship between the mine area and land cover change is not visible. The highest erosionhazard level occurs in mining land classification with a very heavy erosion hazard class. Erosion hazard onplantations and built-up land is dominated by light erosion class, forest and paddy fields cover only very milderosion hazard, and erosion hazard on open ground is dominated by moderate erosion hazard class.
