Abstract
This study aims to determine the socio-economic characteristics of head family slum settlement area in Kangkung Sub-District, Bumi Waras District, Bandar Lampung City. The population in this study were all heads of families occupying slum areas in Kangkung Village as many as 673 families. The sample in this study was 67 families using proportional random sampling technique. The research method used in this research is descriptive research. Data collection using observation techniques, questionnaire techniques and documentation techniques. Data analysis used percentage analysis techniques and cross tabulation analysis techniques (crosstab). The results showed that: (1) The social characteristics of head family slum settlement area in the Kangkung sub-district based on the social variable, namely the level of education, showed that the education level of the head of the family was classified as low, most of them 45 families or 67.17% graduated from elementary school (2) From an economic perspective the type of work of the family head is 31 families or 46.28% as a fisherman, the income level of the head of the family is relatively low, namely ≥ Rp. 1,800,000 – < Rp. 3,000,000/month as many as 33 families or 49.25% and the ownership of valuables by the head of the family is in the medium category, namely as many as 33 families or 49.25%.Based on this research, it can be concluded that the social economic of the head of the family is low.
