“I don’t deserve love”, interpersonal themes in a bisexual suicidal youth with borderline personality disorder

Abstract
This qualitative grounded theory study was conducted to explore the Interpersonal-Psychological Themes of Suicide (Joiner, 2005) in a bisexual suicidal male youth with borderline personality disorder. The results show that parental conflicts and previous suicide attempted of mother cause him to feel disconnected with the family and triggered him to attempt suicide and involve in self-injury behavior. He also feels unworthy of receiving love and attention from others, even including from family and friends, then choosing to withdraw from social relationships. He also admitted that living in a religious country with his bisexual orientation is not an easy path and make him having a great sense of sin while acting suicidal. The interesting finding of this research that religious value is the main factor that prevent him from attempting suicide lethaly, though reports lifetime suicidal ideation and nonsuicidal self-injury. Implication of this research in terms of prevention and treatment are managing conflict in family and being active in religious rituals are considered for future work by practitioners and researchers interested in this field.
