Abstract


The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship of vocational exploration and commitment and parental career-related behaviors with career decision making self-efficacy among adolescents. As adolescents being in exploration stage of their career development, they need to explore the environment and his/her self before make a career decision and committed to this decision. The participants are 315 high school students from school in South Jakarta. Vocational exploration and commitment was measured using Vocational Exploration and Commitment Scale (VECS), career decision making self-efficacy was measured using Career Decision Self-Efficacy Short Form (CDSE-SF), parental career-related behaviors was measured using Parental Career-Related Behaviors (PCB). The results of this study showed that there are significant effects of parental career-related behaviors support (B=-0,0212, p<0,001), interference (B=0,001, p<0,001), and lack of engagement (B=0,138, p<0,01) towards vocational exploration and commitment (VEC) through career decision making self-efficacy. The implications of this study are the need for parents and teachers to support adolescent’s career development. However, item revisions of Vocational Exploration and Commitment Scale are still needed for better understanding of the participants.
