Abstract

ABSTRACT

Seed betel nut (Areca catechu L.) is one of the alternatives used as natural coloring agent. The aim of the research was to develop extract seed betel nut as a blusher compact powder. Extract was obtained by maceration with ethanol 95-96% then evaporated to 500 C. The resulting color extract was evaluated with concentration 10% value of 0HUE 244.17 ± 0.07 (blue), 15% value of 0HUE 309.13 ± 0.46 (grape) and 20% value of 0HUE 281.20 ± 0.00 (grape). Seed betel nut extract are formulated using zinc oxide, candlenut oil, avocado oil, olive oil, talcum, mica powder, magnesium stearate with concentrated 10%, 15%, and 20%. Extract can be made as blusher compact powder with color homogeny, uncrackable at 25 cm height, with lavender odor, pH 6.00 until 6.50. Blusher with a concentration of 10% produces pink color (0HUE 48.30 ± 0.00), 15% produces red color (0HUE25.00 ± 0.14), and 20% produces maroon (0HUE 68.67 ± 0.19). ALT test result and AKK eligible contamination limit microbial contamination that is not more than 10-3coloni/g.
