Patterns of NSAIDs Utilization Before and After National Formulary Implementation at Primary Health Care of Sungai Penuh City Indonesia

Abstract


NSAIDs are one of common pain relief group medicines that used in the world. The aims of this study were to evaluate patterns of NSAIDs utilization at Primary Health Care of Sungai Penuh City and also to analyze the influence of National Formulary implementation toward to the NSAIDs utilization. This study was cross-sectional study. This study used thr data were collected from the monthly drug used report of outpatient from the 2013 to 2015 at 5 Primary Health Care in Sungai Penuh City, Jambi Province, Indonesi. This study was performed by ATC/DDD methodology. The number ofdefined daily doses, DDDs/1000 Inh/daily, and the percentage of the total utilization had been determined. The study collected 180 monthly drug used reports and found 89 drugs were used in 5 PHC from 2013 to 2015. The result showed that there were seven NSAIDs used. Mefenamic Acid (30,36%), piroxicam (27,24%) and ibuprofen (21,68%) are the common NSAIDs used. After the implementation of the National Formulary in 2015 the utilization of NSAIDs decreased, but had no statistically different (p-0.383).
