Tablet Formulation of Extract Papaya and Bay leaf with Variation of Concentration PVP as a Binder

Abstract


Papaya and bay leaf have been extensively studied for several pharmacological activities, one of them for antidiabetic. Tablet with combination of those two plants has never been made. Binder was a component which influence the quality of tablet. The aim of this  research was to make a tablet combination of dry extract papaya and bay leaf. The formulation used PVP K30 as a binder with concentration of 1%, 2% and 3% by wet granulation method. Evaluation of physical properties of tablet was  include  weight variation, friability, hardness, disintegration time and physical appearance. Total flavonoid was determined by spectrophotometry method. The result showed that the appearance tablet is light brown with a flat top and bottom surfaces, a specific odour and bitter taste. Physical properties of the product in accordance with and other pharmaceutical references.  Content of total flavonoid in papaya and bay leaves extract was 1.562% and 2.240% respectively.
