Abstract


Ethyl p- methoxycinnamate (EPMC) was found as major compound of the rhizome of Kaempferia galanga L. (kencur). EPMC was reported to have anti-inflammatory and analgetic activity. This study investigated the effects of topical application of Ethyl p-methoxycinnamate gel on the rate of wound healing closure and  histology of healed wound. Two control group (negative and positive group) and three treatment groups of adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were used.  The positive and negative control group were topicaly received respectively  of bioplacenton gel and gel base. The treatment groups received 1%, 3%, 5% of the epmc gel was administered topically twice  a day for 14 days. Morton’s method was used  to produce a wound in rat. The observation parameters was included the profile of fibroblast, macrophages and wound diameter. The EPMC gel had ability to decrease of wound diameter. Histological study revealed that EPMC gel increased the proliferation of fibroblast cell and decreased the amount of macrophages cells comparable to  control group. This research suggested that EPMC gel promote wound healing activity.
