Abstract

Background: The use of gold nanoparticles in the cosmetics field is quite popular, one of the uses as antiaging. Antiaging activity in a substance can be tested using antiglycation effect assay. Objective: This study aimed to determine the antiglycation effects of gold nanoparticles synthesized using Kacip Fatimah (Labisia pumila) extract and compare it with the antiglycation effects of Kacip Fatimah (Labisia pumila) extract. Materials and Methods: Gold nanoparticles were synthesized using green synthesis method with Kacip Fatimah extract. After that, gold nanoparticles were characterized using UV-Vis spectrophotometer and Particle Size Analyzer (PSA). The last, an antiglycation effects was tested on gold nanoparticles and Kacip Fatimah extract by in vitro with calculating the % inhibition of the formation of AGEs, which is the formation of AGEs can be detected by looking at the intensity of the fluorescence formed. Results: The characterization results are gold nanoparticles has absorption 0.668 at 535.60 nm wavelength and the average particle size is 65.46 nm with polydispersity index (PdI) 0.443 and zeta potential value -35.1 mV. The antiglycation effect assay showed that gold nanoparticles synthesized with 5% Kacip Fatimah extract had a higher antiglycation effect compared to 5% Kacip Fatimah extract, which are the % inhibition of gold nanoparticles synthesized by 5% Kacip Fatimah extract is 89.94 ± 6.12% and the % inhibition of 5% Kacip Fatimah extract is 64.24 ± 5.63%.  Conclusion: Gold nanoparticles synthesized with Kacip Fatimah (Labisia pumila) extract has been shown to has antiglycation effects and can be used as an antiaging agent.
