Abstract

To reduce the side effects of chemical drugs, a study of traditional medicinal plants which is efficacious as wound medicine is carried out. Senduduk leaves (Melastomamalabathricum L) or also called senggani leaves are used as medicine for burns or bleeding wounds accompanied by blood clots, these leaves are also used as antipyretics, analgesics, diuretics, treating leucorrhoea (leukorrhea), This study aims to find a new burn medicine from senduduk leaves (Melastomamalabathricum) with the form of a standard cream and how to use it.

Extraction of senduduk leaves using maceration method with ethanol solvent and continued with a rotary evaporator to obtain thick extract. Senduduk leaves thick extract will be formulated in the form of a cream with a concentration of 2.5%, 5%, and 7.5% and evaluated the preparation. Mice were burnt, using heated metal plates, then applied to senduduk leaf extract cream and diameter measurements were carried out using calipers by measuring four sides of the wound diameter and on average to obtain the percentage of wound closure. The percentage of wound closure was analyzed in H-1 to H-10 treatments.

The results obtained from this study are the most effective wound closure which occurs in the 7.5% extract cream formulation which is equal to 91.0. Whereas extract of 5% of burns closure was 71.0 and extract of 2.5% was 66.2.
