Abstract

Background: One type of make-up cleanser available today is a cleansing balm. Cleansing Balm is a skin cleansing cosmetics made from oil and is very good for dry skin types. The contain of vegetable oil is more effective to remove oil-soluble impurities, such as waterproof makeup stains, compared to water. Objective: In this study, water proof make-up cleansing balm was formulated, ccharacterized, and test for physical stability. Materials and Methods: The cleansing balms were formulated in 5 different formulas contained cocoa butter, cera alba, cetyl alcohol, etc. Each formula contained cocoa butter in concentration of 70%, 65%, 60%, 55%, and 50%. The balm was made by heating the oil and butter phases above the water bath at a temperature of 75-80OC. Characterization of physical properties of preparations was carried out for organoleptic (colour, odour, and texture), pH value, homogeneity, dispersion power, and melting point. The cleansing ability was test to several volunteer’s heathy skin. The physical stability was carried out for a 4 weeks, which the preparations were placed in room and refrigerator temperatures. Results: Cleansing balm was yellowish, cocoalike smell, and semi solid form. The balm was homogeny, the pH was in between 4-6, and the melting point was in between 31.3 – 36.5OC. Conclusion: Based on these results, there were Characterization differences in each formula caused by differences in the concentration of cocoa butter.
