To compare and examine OTC packages with the function of Child Resistance and Senior friendly (CRSF)

ABSTRACT

 

Background: With increasing the number of the elderly in the society, the elderly became a main user of drugs. So there is the demand that both prescription and OTC drug packages with higher usability among the elderly. And, considering children’s safety in everyday life, child resistance type package and devices are also highly demanded in medical care. Particularly, some common use OTC drugs need packages of CRSF. Objective: To compare and examine several prototype OTC packages with the function of CRSF.  Materials and Methods: Practical trial test both the elderly and the children had been done with 3 prototype packages. As for the children (42~51M), they opened 3 type (A, B, C) packages, and the status of opening packages was evaluated. As for the elderly(65-81,mean74.2), they tried same 3 type packages, and hearing usability and all over evaluation of packages. The status of opening packages was scored with NRS (Numeric Rating Scale). Usability are also scored. And, free comments are collected. Results: The test of children, A: nobody could open in right way and 4 opened incorrect ways. B; 7 ones could open in right way and 4 opened incorrect ways. C: 3 ones opened in right way and 4 opened incorrect ways. The test of the elderly, A; 16 ones opened it in right way and 4 did almost right ways, B; 7 ones opened right and 1 opened irregurer, C; 14 ones opened right and 4 did alost right. Compare with children and the elderly, children0-39% and the elderly 93-100%. After anderstanding the opening procedure, most elderly subjects could opened evey tipes. All comments from the elderly were positive. Conclusion: There was the possibility to develop CRSF packages. With the result of opening status of the elderly, type B had best possibility with improvement of protection against childlen.
