Abstract


This is an action research aimed at gaining an idea of how high school students in Jakarta practicing values of “Panca Sila” in relationship of promoting diversity. Research methods used in this research is quantitative and qualitative. The research instrument used in the quantitative approach is the dissemination of questionnaires to the five (5) selected high schools, based on religion, namely Islam, Catholicism, Christianity, and Buddhism. Total respondents were 200 students. For the qualitative approach, we used FGD (Focussed Group Discussion) towards students (1 group).

The results of quantitative approach regarding the practice of Panca Sila among high school students shows female students better than male students on the first sila. In contrast, male students had a practice of Panca Sila in the category “enough” on the fourth sila higher than female students. For the second sila, both students, male and female, have “enough” categories in the almost same percentage, i.e. 43% to 46%. Likewise for the fifth sila, the category “enough” for male students compared to female students is 48% to 42%. As for the third sila, female students had more “enough” category higher compared to male students, i.e. 47% to 36.7%. For the qualitative approach, in general, high school students really appreciate the difference of religion, and this is evidenced by the selection of the OSIS (Student Organization) is more looking at the characteristics of individual candidates like the ability, confidence, vision and mission. As this is an action research, this research also produced a film in which the ideas and the actors and actress come from the students of the five selected schools.
