Abstract


Culture and society are certainly interrelated. Culture that lives and develops in society is passed down from one generation to the next. Before writing culture was known, the society knew oral culture. The process of inheriting this knowledge in oral tradition is usually found in the form of rituals, performances, and ceremonies.

One form of oral tradition which was popular performance in Sundanese society, namely Pantun Sunda as a medium for transferring knowledge. Stories in Pantun Sunda contains the history and world view of Sundanese society that can enrich Sundanese culture.

Until now Pantun Sunda performances can still be found in Sundanese culture at some areas. A juru pantun narrates an old story in the form of narration and singing while accompanied by Kacapi as music. However, along with changes in society and its environment, Pantun Sunda is now experiencing changes in various aspects.

This study explains the existence of Pantun Sunda which found in Ujung Berung, Bandung by carrying out a qualitative approach and oral tradition method. In the midst of the current changes in society, there have been some efforts from people in the area so that this oral tradition still exist.
