Abstract

This paper will examine the Undangano ara as a local industry for traditional arak alcohol refineries in the Buton Community of Southeast Sulawesi Province. As a tropical island, indeed  Buton Island is overgrown with palm trees which it’s lead water is an intoxicating fresh drink known by the people as Konau. The production of palm trees sometimes produces abundant water so that the cultural creativity of the community appears to transform the cone into figs by traditional distillation. The tradition of drinking arak for the people of Buton is usually a complement to the traditional ceremonial processions and medicines consumed not for the purpose of lashing out. But in practice in the community, sometimes it consumes excessively, resulting in criminal actions such as fights or conflicts between villages. The main problem with the existence of this tradition is dealing with positive (criminal) law that applies in the territory of Indonesia.
