The view on the possibility of decreased Islam populism in Indonesian political power, on the one side is based on the thesis about oligarchy and moderate Islam at the other side. Nonetheless, the group of Political Islams’ influences to the rituals that considered as polytheistic practices has emerged since the 1965 tragedy to date. The tragedy as pretext has increased the influence of Political Islams and drowned other groups accused of having close relations to the polytheistic practices. These influences are seen, among others, on the purification of selametan rituals that traditionally functioned to safeguard social harmony in Javanese community but currently has lost its essence. Tensions between groups occurred due to religious orientation domination within Javanese community can no longer be seized, instead it has been controlled by coersive power through the use of 1965 tragedy as pretext. The pretext is also played by the Political Islams groups among others on ritual purification and religious conversion. The inclination of the half-century-old dominance is not only give device to the Political Islams groups on citizenship adjusment, also, in current Islam populism context, give dominant control to mobilise citizenship political resources such as rituals and religions as populism practical field. The observation also questions the above view, which is the weakness of oligarch control at the Javanese community on the one hand, and the role of moderate Islam group on the other, having a modernisation project has plunged this groups into social inequality reproduction.  In other words, when this social inequality is seen as the main factors to increase populism, the modernization project has influence the creation of Islam populism in current days.
