Abstract

Abstract. Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) is a neglected tropical disease caused by infection of parasitic filarial worms Wuchereria bancrofti, Brugia malayi and B. timori. It is an ancient disease, with significant social and economic consequences for affected population. Semarang City is one of the area in Indonesia which indicate the increasing  trend of LF report. Nowdays, there are about 28 LF cases registered. The aim of this study is to investigate the potenstial source of transmission and distribution of LF in Semarang City. It was an observational research using survey method. The samples consicted of 28 LF cases, 28 health caders, and 28 stakeholders of sub hamlet. Varibles studied were knowledge level, phisical and biological environmental factor. Collecting data techniques using interviews and observation. Data would be analyzed desciptively and spatialy to know distribution pattern. The results of this study showed that LF cases were distributed spreadly in Semarang City. Watered small hole, drainage, and stagnant water around the houses were potential breeding places for mosquitoe which suspected as vector of LF transmission. Some small cattle like cat, bat may be posibly as reservoar.  Spatial analysis indicated that LF cases were more frequent distributed in lowland, especially coastal area. This study conluded that physical and biologcal environment factors around the LF cases’ houses may be posibly as source of distribution and transmission of LF in Semarang City.
