Research aims:
Identification of risk factors for smoking behavior is needed as a first step before designing health interventions to prevent and reduce the number of smokers in adolescents. This research aimed to identify the causes of smoking behavior, which aimed to determine the relationship between several risk factors for adolescents smoking behavior.
Design/ methodology/ Approach:
The population was 1.082 junior high school students in Cempaka District, Banjarbaru City, South Kalimantan Province. Sample was 100 respondents. The variables that have been studied are, dependent: smoking and independent behavior: pocket money, cigarette market place access, and cigarette advertisements. The research instrument used a questionnaire. The data were analyzed using chi square test or fisher exact
Research findings:
There were no relationship between pocket money, cigarette market place access, and cigarette advertisements with smoking behavior.
Theoretical contributions/ Originality:
The results of this study are expected to contribute to become one of the references in the preparation of smoking prevention program among adolescents.
Practitioner/ Policy Implications:
The results of this study are expected to be useful as one of the references to formulate a healthy youth program policy without cigarettes, as well as the application of regulations without smoking in schools.
Research limitation:
The variables that have been studied are limited.
