CAREER MOBILITY AMONG FEMALE ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY GRADUATES IN MALAYSIAN INDUSTRY

Abstract
Entrance to higher education institution based on merit have resulted IPT in Malaysia being dominated by women. This phenomenon has caused engineers and technologists in the industries dominated by women. However, career mobility often occurs among these technical women which has resulted in the loss of valuable human resources to the organization and thereby triggered the confidentiality of product design issues. This study was conducted to identify factors affecting career mobility among graduates of female engineering technology which are new in industry. Based on previous studies, female graduates are more likely to inter-organization career mobilization which is more focused subjective career success compared than men who are more likely to be successful in a career as objective. Therefore, based on the theory of protean career, this study was conducted to examine the relationship between work-life balance, employability and psychological well-being towards organization mobility among 114 women's engineering technology graduates who are in the industry in Malaysia. A model has been developed and tested using SEM techniques using SmartPLS software. The findings show that there is a negative relationship between psychological well-being, employability and work-life balance towards organization mobility. The new findings in this study are the influence of psychological well-being plays a major role in organization mobility as compared to the influence of work-life balance and employability. In addition, employability also presents different findings with previous studies in which the employability also can reduced the organization mobility among female engineering technology graduates which are new workers in industry. Therefore, employers should be aware of the importance of psychological well-being, employability and work-life balance to female engineering technology graduates in industry in Malaysia. Employers need to formulate a related policies regarding on work-life balance and employability at workplace to reduce career mobilization by female engineering technology graduates. In addition, the aspect of psychological well-being should be emphasized by an employer which can enhance the happiness of workers.
