Influence Urban Growth to Urban Heath Island Phenomenon Around Jakarta, Indonesia: insight from Depok and Tangerang City
Last modified: 2022-12-22
Abstract
Economic centres in developing nations play a crucial role in development and meeting everyday necessities. Economic centres in developing nations are located in cities. Jakarta is one of the growing hubs in Indonesia, influencing the urban planning of neighbouring cities. Depok City and South Tangerang City are among the cities most impacted by Jakarta's growth. The impact of the growth of the city of Jakarta on these cities is the transformation of vast tracts of the countryside into urbanised areas. Rapid urbanisation has caused a rise in the surface temperature of metropolitan areas, a phenomenon known as the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect. This research utilises multi-temporal Landsat 8 OLI data to determine the land cover and land surface temperature (LST) in the two cities. The link was then evaluated using simple regression. The data may be utilised to establish if the morphological growth of Jakarta had the same impact on the two cities.
