GEOGRAPHY IN THE ANTHROPOCENE: a Bibliometric Review

Abstract


The Earth is entering new epoch, the Anthropocene. An epoch where the geo-bio-chemical system of Earth system is interfered by human activities. This paper aims at mapping themes of articles published by geographer related to Anthropocene. Analyses is conducted by using Scopus data base. The searching uses Anthropocene as keyword and use Geography affiliation as a filter. There are two group themes that become the motor of the geographer. The first group is Anthropocene concept, climate change, and the effect of Anthropocene. The second group is environmental monitoring and ecosystem. China geographer becomes the dominant contributor paper within Anthropocene theme. The two themes related to Anthropocene that are also being discussed but considered a diminishing topic are the first geomorphology, catchment, river; and the second is sustainability, governance approach.
