Abstract

Abstract

Maintaining state sovereignty at sea is one term and effort of a state to protect its territorial integrity. If military intervention, in the past, was primarily used to preserve the state sovereignty among its maritime territories, it is currently inefficient for developing countries such as Indonesia, which has vast waters area. In this respect, protecting the marine environment in the recent destruction era can also maintain state sovereignty. Several ways of environmental approaches that can be accomplished are through setting MPA coordinate points, establishing PSSA, establishing TSS, establishing fisheries zones up to the designation of archipelagic sea lanes. Through such intervention, an arrangement, in the use and utilization of maritime spaces, shall be established indirectly. And in turns, it would respectively grant the state power in governing the evolving user states that will pass or use their rights in some Indonesia maritime spaces. Through the current doctrinal research, the researchers would figure out how actions to protect and preserve the marine environment can maintain the sovereignty of archipelagic states from various cross-border rights in Indonesian waters. And therefore, by protecting the marine environment, Indonesia shall provide numerous benefits from marine protected areas and conserved state sovereignty.
