Abstract

This study observed at the relationship between parenting style and self-regulated learning with the ability of Quran literacy in Muslim adolescents. According to Central Bureau of Statistics Indonesia in 2010, Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world and holds the title as the country with the largest Muslim population. About 85% of Indonesia's population is Muslim. As the largest Muslim country in the world, the illiteracy of the Qur'an is still high. Based on the results of the University of Indonesia Institute of Sciences (PTIIQ) research in 2013, as many as 65% of Indonesian Muslims are illiterate in the Qur'an, 35% of them can read the Qur'an, but only 20% can read the Qur'an very well. Various ways was doing the government to reduce the high number of illiterate Qur'an. One of the ways is incorporating the Qur’an literacy lesson in the local content curriculum. However, the program is not quite effective because of the lack of time provided in the lesson. The low literacy of the Qur'an in students influenced by two factors, internal and external. Internal factors such as, lack of learning motivation and poor time management whereas, the external factors is lack of guidance from parents to study the Qur'an. In an effort to improve the ability of Quran literacy in Muslim adolescents, researchers focused on internal factors by self-reguated learning and external factors that are represented by parenting style. The research used was quantitative by conducting a questionnaire survey that was analyzed using SPSS approach. The measuring tools used are the constructs of Baumrind's parenting theory, self-regulated learning by Zimmerman’s theory and the results of interviews with Quran literacy experts for measuring Quran Literation. The sample of the study was selected Muslim students with non probability and convenience sampling technique from five regions.
