Students nowadays are not free from academic stress, the type of stress that triggered by a stressor in the form of academic burden. This academic stress cannot be ignored because it has negative impacts on learning process and student achievement. An effort to reduce academic stress is by developing self-regulated learning, which is a behavior in which a person is able to manage their own learning process. The results of a study shows that self-regulated learning is negatively correlated with academic stress. In Islamic teachings, it is known as an attitude of striving and surrender to Allah, which is called tawakal. Tawakal attitude can be applied in various activities including learning which is described with sincerity and wisdom.

This study aims to determine the effect of self-regulated learning and tawakal attitude in learning on academic stress in students’ academic life. By using quantitative methods, this study involved 131 active Muslim student respondents at the undergraduate and equivalent levels of S1 (D4 and S1 extension) at both state and private universities in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi. The results show that self-regulated learning and tawakal attitudes in learning simultaneously have an effect on academic stress, but the greater effect is tawakal attitude in learning.
