Conflict Resolution Styles as Predictor of Marital Satisfaction in Commuter Marriage Couple

Abstract


Marital satisfaction is a subjective view, in which the couple feel satisfied and fulfilled in the marriage relationship, and the predictor of marriage stable and survive. Conflict resolution is considered to be an important predictor of partner marital satisfaction. Conflict is a normal and natural thing of marriage life, even individuals can use conflict to enriched the relationships, when conflict can be managed properly. The general trend or response pattern for dealing with conflicts in various situations is known as conflict resolution. This study aims to determine the effect of conflict resolution styles in predicting of marital satisfaction in commuter marriage couple. The selection of commuter marriage as the focus of this research is due to the commuter marriage couple's phenomenon keeps increasing with the changing of time and point of view in marriage. Respondents of this study consisted of 66 couples who are undergoing commuter marriage. Sampling used in this research pertained convenience sampling technique that is sampling based on the willingness of respondents. Measurement of marital satisfaction using Couple Satisfaction Index (CSI) and conflict resolution style using Conflict Resolution Style Inventory (CRSI). Data analysis using Structural Equation modeling (SEM) technique showed Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) = 0,00; Comperative Fit Index (CFI) = 1.00; and Standarized Root Mean Square Residual (SRMR) = 0.0004. These results indicate that the model fit, so it can be concluded that the conflict resolution style is a significant predictor of marital satisfaction in the commuter marriage couple.
