Abstract
The present study is an extension of the previous available research studies on leisure engagement (LE). The previous literature has emphasized a lot of importance of leisure engagement in health and well-being however role of various activities performed during that period are not studied much. The present study is set out to explore the relation between leisure engagement and stress toleration, with variety in LE as mediator. For this purpose 120 students including both girls and boys were selected using purposive sampling. A questionnaire consisting questions related to kind of activities and amount of time spent in these activities on weekly basis was given to participants. For Stress Tolerance a scale for college students of India developed by Reshmy and Sananda Raj (1999) was used to measure stress tolerance (measure the capacity of dealing with stress). Results revealed positive correlations among leisure engagement, variety in leisure engagement and stress tolerance. Variety in leisure engagement partially mediated the relationship between leisure engagement and stress tolerance. This indicates that exposure of various activities to youth for leisure engagement can maximize effects.
