Emotional Intelligence and Organisational Commitment: A study on work performance among working adults who studied part time.

Abstract


Working and studying is indeed challenging, and this phenomenon of working and studying among Malaysians has increased over the years, and their performance has at times being queried. Therefore, this research is done in order to answer some questions in regards to the performance of these working adult who studied part time. Researchers believed that there may be more factors that contribute to work performance, however, for this research, two variables were studied, emotional intelligence and organisational commitment. Respondents for this study were chosen among working adults who studied part time in Selangor, Malaysia. 167 respondents participated in this study. A set of survey questionnaires were distributed to the respondents. The survey tool used were Organisational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ), Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS) and Iran Herman’s work performance survey. Using correlation and regression, the relationships between the variables were tested. The findings showed that there was a positive relationship between organisational commitment and work performance, as well as positive relationship between emotional intelligence and work performance among the working adult who studied part time. The outcome of this research contributed to the prove that emotional intelligence and level of organisational commitment to working adult’s work performance even if they are studying part time.
