Abstract

This research aims to examine the differences in seafarers’ performance in terms of years of service and age. Respondents  are 320 Indonesian active seafarers from various commercial shipping companies and has a minimum 1 year length of working. Data were collected by using  likert scale and open questionnaire. Furthermore, the data  is analyzed by using anova 2 factor analysis of varians.

The result of difference test of Indonesian seafarers’ performance in terms of years of service show that the research hypothesis is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that respondents’ years of service (1-5 years; 6-10 years; 11-15 years; 16-20 years; 21-25 years; 26-30 years; 31-35 years) has no significant effect on their level of performance.

The result of difference test of seafarers’ performance in terms of age also show that the research hypothesis is rejected. It can be concluded that respondents’ age (21-25 years old; 26-30 years old; 31-35 years old; 36-40 years old; 41-45 years old; 46-50 years old; 51-55 years old; 56-60 years old) has no significant impact on seafarers’ performance.

The result from this study show that years of service and age doesn’t affect the performance of a Indonesian seafarer because according to them there are many other factors that influence their performance.
