Abstract

Background: Men who have sex with men (MSM) with HIV/AIDS are a stigmatized population and at high risk of transmitting HIV infection. Promotion of condom use is a strategic key to preventing HIV transmission among MSM and their partners. Objective: to identify the determinants of the behavior of condom use among MSM with HIV/AIDS. Method: cross sectional analytic design. Sampling technique consecutive sampling. Research in Kupang with 150 respondents. Results: There was a relationship between knowledge about sexual health of MSM with HIV/AIDS (p = 0.001; α = 0.05) and alcohol use (p = 0.002; α = 0.05) with the behavior of condom use. Multiple regression analysis showed that the more dominant factor influencing the behavior of condom use in MSM with HIV/AIDS in Kupang was knowledge about sexual health of MSM with HIV/AIDS (p = 0.001; α = 0.05; OR = 15,506; 95% CI = 3.550-3,550-67,732).

Conclusion: the consistency of condom use for MSM with HIV/AIDS requires good knowledge regarding the sexual health of MSM with HIV/AIDS. Health workers, including reaching out to MSM with HIV/AIDS, are encouraged to design specific interventions in providing sexual health education to MSM with HIV/AIDS, promotion of continuous condom use, and conduct further research related to knowledge about sexual health among MSM with HIV/AIDS.
