SELF-CARE AND UNPLEASANT SYMPTOMS IN INDONESIAN POSTPARTUM MOTHERS WITH TWIN BABIES: A NURSING CASE REPORT

Abstract


Postpartum mothers with twin is a critical condition in maternal condition when they have to adapt  the presence of two babies at once. We reported the five cases of postpartum mothers with twin. We provided care to the mothers using self care theory and unpleasant symptoms. The five mothers presented to two hospitals in Jakarta, Indonesia. During 3 days of treatment, postpartum mothers can perform standard self care without assistance even though self and time management is not optimal. However, they felt unpleasant symptoms postpartum discomfort, breast engorgement, less support from husband and anxiety. Interventions conducted by relaxation, lactation management, health education related to maternal and infant care with twin with family involvement and the provision of support from health workers and assistants. Self care can be done by optimizing self and time management in postpartum mothers with twin. Health workers are recommended to facilitate family assistance while the mother is still in postpartum care at the hospital and home visits as a form of follow-up.
