THE EFFECTS OF COGNITIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPY AND ASSERTIVENESS TRAINING IN CHRONIC LOW SELF-ESTEEM CLIENTS

Abstract


Schizophrenia is a severe and continuous-neurobiological disease which can disturb individual life. The sign symptoms of a schizophrenics can be positive and negative. One of the negative symptoms experienced by treated patients is chronic low self-esteem (CLSE). The research method employed in this research is operational research with a total sample was  30 clients without a control group. The research aims to investigate the change of sign symptoms and the ability of clients with chronic low self-esteem after receiving nursing intervention by generalist individual nurse and specialist individual nurse specializing in cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and Assertiveness Training (AT). The result of this research reveals that the client’s ability increases significantly (p-value ≤ 0.05) and signs symptoms of chronic low self-esteem decrease significantly (p-value ≤ 0.05) after receiving individual nursing intervention by generalist nurses and specialist nurses in cognitive behaviour and assertiveness therapy. The combination provision of nurses generalist and and nurses specialist intervention in cognitive behaviour therapy as well as assertiveness therapy are highly recommended to the implementation of nursing diagnoses of chronic low self-esteem.
