Dimensions of Stress in Parents with Autistic Children

Abstract


Parents of children with autism are at increased risk for stress and other mental health problems. Different reactions among parent after being informed that their child has autism include denial and painful emotional reactions give impact to the inter-relatedness of the mother’s health and the child’s well-being, struggles to deal with oneself or the child, inadequate support from the family and community, and anxiety. While treatment is focused to the child in the scenario, parent somehow gets stressed more and more. This research focuses on stress in parents with autistic children based on the result of Parenting Stress Index 4th Edition (PSI-4). This research will identify the lowest and highest parenting stress level for each of the Child Domain, and Parent Domain sub-scales from the PSI-4.
