Abstract
The groundwater crisis in Kediri Regency has increasingly felt its effects lately, especially in Sepawon Village, Plosoklaten Subdistrict, which is in the upper reaches of the Toyaning sub-watershed. Deforestation in water recharge areas results in reduced infiltration of rainwater and thus a reduction in groundwater reserves. The objectives of this study is: (1) to determine water recharge areas and water discharge areas in the Toyaning sub-watershed and (2) to analyze the reduced forest area. The variables used are porosity of rock, slope, rainfall intensity, geological conditions, land use/land cover, depth of ground water level and soil type. This study uses weighting - overlaying methods and classification of land use (iso-cluster unsupervised) using geographic information systems. The results showed that forest land conversion and deforestation had occurred, which was indicated as a cause of drought in the study area since 2017. The area of forest lost from 2013 to 2018 is 5,99 km2. The government and the community together should be able to maintain the forest area in order to mitigate drought.
