Abstract
The depletion of environmental situation in India in 1900’s was consciously thought by Gandhi ji. Therefore, in 1909, Gandhi ji was publishing Hind Swaraj or Indian Home Rule. In his book he was express his position as environmentalist who response to the industrialization in the West and the effect to the civilian in India. He predict that the large scale and fast growing industrialization in the world may giving bad impact towards the environmental degradation and the people living space in India. He was mentioning that there will be a big gap between the poor and the rich, there will be immense viciousness and greediness towards material things that neglecting the need to live in conformity with nature. Therefore, the objective of Hind Swaraj is that it is better to seek the root of problems of environmental degradation and the culture towards fast industrialization than to seek solutions towards the problems by advocating a peaceful and harmonious living with nature. This paper is aimed at discussing the Hind Swaraj and current Gandhian Movement on saving environment. This paper is employing the historical context of the Hind Swaraj by analizing some relevance literature and exploring some example of new Gandhian Movements in saving environment. This paper is concluded that currently there are quite number of Gandhian Movements that advocating the saving environment in many ways. This study is conducted in some cities in India where the Gandhian Movements are playing its role.
