Abstract

This study aims to determine the understanding of the concept of sustainable development which requires a trade-off of the social, economic and ecosystem services dimensions in lake management. This study is a case study on Lake Kerinci, Jambi Province which lasted for 6 months from April to September 2019. The method used was a review of related documents and focus group discussion (FGD) with stakeholders. The results of this study indicate that Lake Kerinci is classified as a tecto-volcanic lake with an inundation area of 4,200Ha with a maximum depth of 110m. The condition of Lake Kerinci is currently critical so that it is one of the priority lakes that must be revitalized. The Kerinci Lake inlet comes from 8 watersheds where the catchment area has been damaged. This causes Lake Kerinci has eroded, sedimentation, decrease in water quality, and decrease in biodiversity . The FGD results show that the level of public awareness is still low on the lake's strategic value and its conservation efforts. The problems faced are the use of space that is not in accordance with the designation and the absence of utilization zoning. The study of ecosystem services shows that there is no understanding of both the community and stakeholders and there are no policies aimed at conservation.
