Abstract

Hydrologic models are used as a basic consideration for decision making on water resources engineering and management. This current paper investigates a calibration and validation method of hydrologic model using Hydrological Engineering Centre–Hydrologic Modelling System (HEC-HMS) applied in Kecau River basin that is one of sub-basin of Pahang River. General speaking, the degree of confidence of hydrologic models prediction will normally depend on how well the model can replicate and imitate the observations recorded data. The stream flow data used in this analysis is obtained from station 4320401 at Kg. Dusun with a duration period from years 2006 – 2013. Then, the Nash-Sutcliffe model Efficiency (NSE); RMSE-observation standard deviation (RSR), Percent Bias (PBIAS) will be used to measure the performance of hydrologic model in predicting of hydrograph. In this study, hydrologic model performance is not only evaluated qualitatively using NSE, RSR, and PBIAS but also it will be tested quantitatively. The results of analysis revealed that the observed and simulated discharge hydrographs in the calibration and validation exercises were reasonably close. In term of quantitative evaluation, Flow Duration Curves (FDCs) approach was employed to asses the discharge frequency distribution.
