Analysis Urban Transformation of Palembang using Remote Sensing and GIS Technique

Abstract


Palembang has a new identity after a sports event. Palembang transforms from river city to landed city. A lot of swamps burry become ‘land’ to fulfill area for sports facilities. This research analyses transformation of Palembang using remote sensing and spatial metrics. This research used 3 different images of map take from Landsat image. That map separates into 3 categories: first category maps from 2001, before National sports event (PON XVI); second map from 2007; the last category from the map of 2017 (before Asian Games 2018).  There are three steps: first, use remote sensing and GIS analysis; second steps discuss prediction of urban growth of Palembang and the last steps talked about a comparison based on mobility and environment index. This paper shows that Palembang using ribbon development based on the road, and also show the impact of the development in the mobility and environment of Palembang. This research show that sport event can transform Palembang into modern city based on land, not a river anymore. Negative aspect of urban growth called urban sprawl can afflict to Palembang in a future time.
