Semantic Analysis of Chinese Language Verb-Object Collocation

Abstract


Chinese Language Verb-Object (VO) collocation produces compound words and verbal phrases. VO collocation often becomes problem for Chinese language learner in Indonesia. This research is conducted by analyze the Chinese writing of the third grade (intermediate level) students of Chinese Language Department of Bunda Mulia University, Indonesia. It is found that the verb得到 (dédào: to get) is the most frequent false collocation of VO form. The research of the 17.145 words writing aims to identify false collocation of the verb 得到with the noun and the factors that affect the false collocation of the verb得到. The analysis of the false collocation of verb 得到 is starts with identify the type of verb depend on the semantic meaning, continue with identify the noun parameter that can be collocate with, and analyze the false collocation of VO in student’s writing. It is found that the false collocation of verb is because the students can’t identify the semantic meaning differences of verb 得到with verb “mendapat”, “mendapatkan”, “memperoleh”which are the translation of verb 得到in Indonesian, and also because there words have synonymy relation with verb得到.
