Choosing Identity: Religions of Chinese Indonesians during the New Order Era

Abstract


This paper introduces a simple model based on rational-choice theory in predicting religion conversion among Chinese Indonesia. Two periods during the country's New Order Period are discussed: In the first period, most conversions of Chinese Indonesian were toward Christianity, while in the second period, most conversions were toward Islam.
