Gel Formulation Containing Microcapsules of Grape Seed Oil (Vitis vinifera L.) for Skin Moisturizer

Abstract


Grape seed oil (Vitis vinifera L.) has a high linoleic acid content which can be used as moisturizer and skin health. The ability of linoleic acid as moisturizer and skin health can be utilized as an active ingredient in cosmetic products. However, linoleic acid is easily oxidized, it gives an effect to limited the storage conditions and application in cosmetic products. The aims of this research were to prepare microcapsules grape seed oil (Vitis vinifera L.) to improve the stability as well as to formulate the gel containing grape seed oil microcapsules as skin moisturizer product. Grape seed oil microcapsules were prepared by solvent evaporation method using ethylcellulose as coating polymer. The grape seed oil was encapsulated with ethylcellulose in the ratio of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 based on the amount of oil and polymer ratio. Furthermore, the F4 microcapsules were incorporated into gel dosage form, since the F4 microcapsules had the highest entrapment efficiency (75,10%). The results revealed that microencapsulation technique by solvent evaporation method using ethylcellulose as a coating polymer could change grape seed oil in liquid form to solid forms. In addition, the microcapsules of grape seed oil might enhance the stability of linoleic acid. Therefore, they could be incorporated into gel formulation to be an interesting cosmetic product for skin moisturizer.
