Abstract

White tea is an unfermented tea made from young shoots leaves of Camellia sinensis L. Kuntze protected from sunlight to avoid polyphenol degradation and commonly used as a beverage and herbal medicine. This present study was conducted to establish the pharmacognostic dan phytochemical standardization parameters of white tea leaves ethanolic extract. Macroscopical and microscopical characters, physicochemical and phytochemical analysis were evaluated using standard methods. Macroscopical and microscopical features of the leaf have been documented. Physicochemical parameters like heavy metals content, moisture content, total ash, and respectively acid insoluble ash were also evaluated. Phytochemical analysis indicated the presence of tannins, flavonoids, glycosides and saponins. In conclusion, pharmacognostic and phytochemical features established in this study may be used as part of the pharmacopoeial standard which can play an important role in its standardization.
