Abstract

Background: Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) can decreased of total cholesterol level, trigliceryd level, Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) level and increased High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) so can improve the lipid profile. Objective: this study purpose to know the effect of this plant extract to lipid profile of trials animal that induced by high-fat diet. Material and Methods: this research is pre-test and post-test with control group design. Subject were 30 white rats male Wistar strain that divided into six experimental groups: group I (negative control), group II (positive control), group III (standar control/ simvastatin dose of 0,72 mg/200kgBW), group IV (okra extract dose of 0,18 g), group VI (okra extract dose of 0,36 g), group VI (okra extract dose of 0,72 g). The differences in lipid profile levels of pre-test and post-test were conducted by Wilcoxon test. Kruskal-Wallis test is used to determine the effectiveness of okra extract to the improvement of lipid profile. Results: Total cholesterol, trigliserid and LDL levels can decreased with significant differences (p = 0,000). Conclusion: Okra extract can improve lipid profile of animal trials induced by high-fat diet.
