Abstract

Background: Moringa oleifera has been used for therapeutic applications in several disorders including cardiovascular disease. Recently, it was suggested that M. oleifera also have vascular protective effects which against the aging-induced endothelial dysfunction. Objective: This review aimed to discusses the effects of M. oleifera in preventing vascular aging by the alteration of endothelial dysfunction. Materials and Methods: This review discuss the pathophysiology of aged-induced endothelial dysfunction and the underlying mechanisms of M. olifera in preventing vascular aging. Results: Vascular aging consist of a set of changes in the mechanical and structural properties of the vascular wall including endothelial dysfunction. M. oleifera could reduce endothelial-dependent NO signalling defect and restore endothelial-dependent relaxation which play an important role in endothelial dysfunction and therefore it could prevent vascular aging. These process was ensue especially due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Conclusion: M. oleifera could prevent vascular aging through its function in ameliorate aging-induced endothelial dysfunction
